First, the floppy versions of AOL are totally out of date. They will not normally work at all on any current operating system. And you need a current system to use the service. This disk may also have been used to create a dial up connection and all Internet traffic now is designed for broadband. For this you need to subscribe to an ISP in your area and fit the correct equipment for it.

I had the same problem! It was funny how I got it working. I was chasing a ghost with a vacuum cleaner, and The ghost grabbed the floppy and dropped it in the fish tank. But when I put the floppy in my computer It worked! And it accepted my registration! BTW I use windows 7.

Once you pay to register a domain name, you will have that domain name for a year. They have an expiration, and you need to continue to pay just like a subscription service each year. Generally the terms are for a year, but you can get more. If you do not continue paying the domain goes into limbo for a set period of time, then gets released back to the public.

For sake of simplicity, they should apply for it. However, it doesn't really matter. For example, I host my applications on two servers: a local one I own, and a remote server owned by a hosting company. I apply for SSL certificates on both, even though the remote server isn't owned by me. What REALLY matters is who owns the domain it is being purchased for. In the case of an intranet, however, it shouldn't matter.
