I think their argument is that someone had to be able to reduce the entropy in the universe so that there could be enough order for life to exist. Since we can't break the laws of thermodynamics, only God could be capable of doing such a thing, at least according to them.

Cells use something called respiration to break down food particles. Note that this only is for the molecular level, I'm not that clear about the digestive track.
What is respiration?
It's the opposite of photosynthesis.
Cells require oxygen, water, and a food molecule (like glucose, a sugar). THe food particle is broken down in the jello-ish cytoplasm in a cell. This releases only a little energy. these would be all natural sources of complex carbohydrates like lentils, whole oats, beans, etc. these foods are complex carbohydrates that are high in fiber and low GI but provide lasting energy for hours but are are low calorie per serving.
