best web hosting provider?

Posted by – October 28, 2010

I have read many shared web hosting reviews and in fact asked a question a few days agon on Yahoo answers however I believe I closed the question by mistake.

I am looking for reliablity, EXPECIALLY good customer support, and advanced features. As I am IT pro, I am looking for a reliable business hosting for a client. Customer support must be great. Tons of features should be available. PHP based. What I’m looking at here is not cheap but a value for money option. Cheap of course would be better but don’t want to compromise.

Some people recommended HostMonster.com, Slicehost.com (not interested in VPS plan),inmotionhosting.com, bluehost.com.

So my top 3 in the list are:
1) bluehost
2) inmotionhosting
3) HostMonster

However ratings at http://www.besthostratings.com at not a wow….

Any personal experience to share please?

Cheers

Anyone been with MediaEnd (www.mediaend.com) or Steadfast (Steadfast.com)

Could anyone please point out own experience? Any recommendations?.Please don’t recommend by just sending review links – been through that already.

Thanks
I thought I will give some hosts a some stress tests myself :) . For anyone looking for a host like me, here’s some feedback
- Inmotion support never replied my email, Live chat took 4 mins for initial response. After my 2nd question I’ve received
a reply after another 5 mins and stopped replying after my 3nd question without any notice.
- Powweb – Support facility is quite basic.
- Fatcow good support response and helful however no demo cpanel site, and lack features such as fantastico.
- HostMonster good support for round 1. However on round 2, the other operator was not so friendly. As for backups, the tech guy that backups MAY be taken on a weekly basis…MAYBE lol…(guess all depends on the sys admin mood)
- Weblaunchingpad lousy techical support.
- HostGator very good support however prices are more expensive than competitors
-JustHost VERY good support for round 1. However on round 2, the other operator was not so friendly.

Also another hosting asked me to confirm my identity by specifing the cpanel admin password!! (yes your password) or paypal
reference number.

Anyone else can share own experience with HostGator or Justhost.com?

Ok, I use http://www.hostmonsterplus.com
I used to use Blue Host, but it appears their IP has some issues with the Chinese firewall.

Host Monster and Blue Host and actually the same company, or 2 sub divisions of 1 mother company. The only difference is that http://www.hostmonsterplus.com is cheaper, handles a few more databases per account and has no problems with the Chinese firewall.

As for inmotion, when I was reading reviews, I wasn’t overly impressed by the amount of complaints I’ve read around, and I’ve never had a reason to leave Host Monster. So I can’t give a real review on them.

But out of Host Monster and Blue Host, go for Host Monster.
Also, if you do choose Blue Host and can’t get onto it while in China, use the Host Monster support and tell them you’re from Blue Host and your problem, it’s the same support people so you can still contact them there, but it’s best to avoid the problem all together in all honesty.

Good luck, and I hope you enjoy your choice. If you have any issues you can PM me.

I use Vodahost. http://www.vodahost.com/. I have been using them for 5 years. The support is fantastic, incredible value. More of everything than most providers. I’d be surprised if you find better. They are US based, but they could be next door. They have even phoned me a couple of times to check if everything is okay. Check out the forum. If you submit a support ticket they are always on the ball any time of day or night. Love them!! – I think a lot of the reviews on besthostratings must be by competitors. It does not reflect my experience.

Hi, let me tell you my experiences with byethost. I run four free hosting re-sellers for byet for about a year now. The free hosting that I give away is often described on forums as better than paid hosting, but that would obviously depend on what you wanted.
I recently took a paid account from them as well, and really it’s excellent.
Check out my newest re-seller if you’re interested in free php mysql hosting with 10 databases and no ads! Or click the links for paid plans, excellent VFM. (http://www.yiphee.co.cc)
Check what others say about byet…http://www.free-webhosts.com/reviews/ByetHost.php
    And follow the links!
Also, you’ll notice they have been voted as the best here…..

Regarding customer support, they have always been known to be really responsive, solving problems rapidly. They’re quite a friendly bunch and back up their support system with a very informative fourm.
You may even wish to sign up for one of their re-seller accounts which gives you almost total control over your clients accounts, ie. how many databases to allocate, disc space etc. And it’s free, although you can upgrade rather cheaply. I have tried other hosts, all have had good customer support but many can be sticklers for rules, byet are quite flexible, all said and done, I wouldn’t give up my re-seller for the world, and I am more than happy with my paid accounts.

Best is hard to define, especially for the things you specify because they are hard to measure. HostingScorecard (linked to below) rates Bluehost as a 74, inmotionhosting as a 84 and HostMonster as a 85.

These numbers are based on thousands of user expressed reviews and opinions

Paul,I did the second option that DOF mentioned. I bought and registered the domain address through hostmonster (which has the best rates right now). Two years was around 184.00. Then I uploaded the wordpress software and went from there. I find it much much better than hosting the blog for free on the wordpress site.Firefox has an FTP interface called FireFTP which is super easy and makes uploading themes and pictures a snap. I've taught myself most of this (with the help of the hubby). I find it fascinating. I don't even come close to being a tech geek and [...]

I have the same problem in reverse. I go in to answer a question, and until it goes to resolves or to voting, 80% of the time nobody else comes and answers the same question. I would think that the asker would go into their question every half hour and pick best answer that same exact day when they see that the 1st of 2 answers is really right.

The taleb strategy is the only options strategy I actually use…. I don’t look at charts, or the news or any of that garbage. It’s very simple to run and test, find an out of the money option, how many standard deviations does the stock have to move before you make money? How much has it moved like that in say the past 6 months, if you run this strategy (and paid for it) would it be profitable on a 2-year backtest? If yes then buy it.
